Higher Qualifications

The College’s Higher Qualifications are changing.

In 2012, the College will continue to offer its existing qualifications for all College members alongside our new programme. This means that even if you have not started a qualification under the current system you will have the opportunity to do so in 2012.

In 2013, we will continue to run the existing qualifications only for those members who have undertaken a certificate and either need to resit the exam or wish to gain Certificate B having passed certificate A.

Alternatively, you can choose to follow the new system. The new higher qualifications framework is a modular approach to achieving College of Optometrists’ Professional qualifications. We will work with universities and other course providers to accredit their courses which fit into this framework.

We believe this will be an improved and more flexible system because it means that courses will be delivered by learning institutions across the country and that optometrists will be given increased levels of support and guidance as they work towards the qualifications.
