The College will be holding an evening of stimulating, CET accredited lectures, a hands-on workshop and valuable networking on Thursday 24 May 2012 from 5pm at Glasgow Caledonian University.
New to regional events: clinical workshop on gonioscopy (only open to College members for a fee of £30). Workshop spaces are limited and are sold on a first come first served basis.
The event following the workshops is FREE to members.

Following the workshop, there will be presentations from experts on topical issues affecting optometry. You will benefit from the opportunity to gain CET points and network with colleagues from across the region in the Govan Mbeki Building, Glasgow Caledonian University. The venue is located on Cowcaddens Road, across from Buchanan Bus Station, close to the Royal Concert Hall and the Buchanan Galleries Shopping Centre. The University campus is a short walk away from the city centre or Queen Street and Central railway stations. There is no car parking on campus, but there is a car park directly across from the University on Cowcaddens Road, adjacent to Buchanan Bus Station. Cost of parking is £5. Food will be served after the workshop, and before the lectures, and drinks and refreshments provided throughout.
Non members are welcome to attend from 6.00pm but we would request an attendance fee of £50.
Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, The Cornoeplastic Unit and Eye Bank, Queen Victoria Hospital
'It's a bug's life' - a microbe's journey around the cornea.
Saj Khan is a fellowship trained Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in corneal, refractive and anterior segment surgery. His NHS practice is based at The Corneoplastic Unit and Eye Bank, Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead. He is also in practice at Centre for Sight, East Grinstead and London, where he additionally provides a comprehensive range of premium laser and lens based refractive surgery. He undertakes all manner of corneal surgery including high risk penetrating and lamellar corneal transplantation, stem cell transplantation, intracorneal ring surgery, and corneal collagen crosslinking. Mr Khan is regularly involved in the training of other ophthalmic surgeons, optometrists and nurses and is a reviewer for the Journal of The Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

Double trouble - the management of diplopia in optometric practice
Biography:
Simon Frackiewicz began his career in eye care as an orthoptist working at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. After a number of years in practice, he returned to university to retrain as an optometrist. He is currently a partner of two busy independent optical practices in South Somerset and continues to work part-time as an orthoptist at Yeovil hospital. Simon delivers many web-based and face-to-face BV tutorials for a number of pre-registration training programmes.
Rajrishi Sharma, Optometrist and Ophthalmologist from Glasgow will be running the gonioscopy workshop.
